RB Leipzig has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at striker Loïs Openda on social media following their 2-0 victory over St. Pauli in the German Bundesliga.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the club expressed their disgust and anger over the offensive comments targeting Openda, describing them as both saddening and upsetting.

“We condemn racism and inhumane behavior in the strongest possible terms,” Leipzig said. “Loïs has the full support of the club, and together we will fight against all forms of discrimination.”

Openda, a 23-year-old Belgian forward, came on as a substitute in the 73rd minute of Sunday’s match when Leipzig was already leading 2-0. Despite having two chances to increase the lead, he failed to score.

Since joining Leipzig in 2023, Openda has made an impressive impact, scoring 10 goals and providing 9 assists in 30 matches across all competitions this season.
