Lamar Jackson has now made history as the NFL’s all-time leader in rushing yards by a quarterback. In the Baltimore Ravens’ 31-2 victory over the Houston Texans on Wednesday, Jackson surpassed Michael Vick’s previous record of 6,109 rushing yards. What makes this achievement even more impressive is that Jackson reached this milestone in 41 fewer games than Vick (143 games for Vick, 102 for Jackson).
Jackson broke the record with a 6-yard run in the third quarter and ended the game with 87 rushing yards on just four carries, including a 48-yard touchdown run. Despite his remarkable achievement, Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP and a contender for a third MVP this season, had stated earlier in the year that the record wasn’t a major focus for him.
In an appearance on “The Lounge” podcast, Lamar Jackson emphasized that his primary focus is winning a Super Bowl, not breaking records. “I’m trying to get a Super Bowl,” he said. “If the record comes, so be it. But that’s not my goal. If it happens, I’ll cherish it, and I hope it stands for a long time, but it’s not my main objective.”
Following the game, Lamar Jackson expressed his gratitude for breaking the record previously held by “one of my favorite players.”
