Jonathan David, the 24-year-old Canadian striker, is currently weighing his future at Lille, with discussions about a potential new contract ongoing. David, who has been with the French club for five seasons, has been in outstanding form this term, leading Ligue 1’s top scorer list with 11 goals in 15 matches. His current contract expires in June, and Lille has reportedly offered him a two-year extension.
In an interview with La Voix du Nord, David explained that the talks are still in progress but no final decision has been made yet. He described his chances of staying at Lille as “50-50” and emphasized that while the situation remains open, nothing is set in stone.
So far this season, David has scored 17 goals in total, including four in the Champions League and two in qualifying matches, bringing his tally to 101 goals since joining Lille in 2020. As one of Europe’s most coveted strikers, David could leave Lille for free if he doesn’t renew his contract, but Lille’s president, Olivier Létang, has stated that David will not be sold in January.
Currently, Lille sits in fourth place in Ligue 1 and will play against struggling Nantes on Saturday as the league resumes after the winter break.
