New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. was handed a one-game suspension and fined by Major League Baseball on Friday following his ejection during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays and a violation of MLB’s social media policy. The decision was announced by MLB senior vice president of on-field operations Michael Hill.

Chisholm appealed the suspension, which delayed the penalties until a resolution is reached. He played in the Yankees’ 1-0 win over Tampa Bay on Friday night, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

The incident occurred on Thursday night when Chisholm was ejected in the seventh inning by plate umpire John Bacon after arguing a called third strike on a full-count pitch from Mason Montgomery that appeared to be low. It was Chisholm’s fifth career ejection, and his first as a Yankee.

Following the ejection, Chisholm posted a message on his X (formerly Twitter) account that read, “Not even … close!!!!!” along with a profanity, before deleting the post. MLB’s social media policy prohibits players from using electronic devices during games to post content that questions or criticizes umpires.

“I didn’t think before I posted, but looking back, it was probably ejection-worthy,” Chisholm said after the game. “I’m a competitor, and when I feel like I’m right, I get fired up. I lost my emotions and lost my cool, and I need to be better than that. I’m definitely upset with myself for letting that happen.”
