Wrexham forward Elliot Lee will be given some time to recover after being involved in a road traffic accident, according to manager Phil Parkinson.
The incident occurred as Lee was heading home after helping Wrexham secure a 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Trophy last Tuesday. The 30-year-old, who sustained bruising to his ribs, was not available for Saturday’s 2-0 win over Northampton Town. Parkinson stated he wasn’t sure when Lee would be ready to return to action.
“Elliot is a key player for us and our top scorer, so we definitely want him back, but we have to ensure he’s fully recovered,” Parkinson explained. “The trauma of the accident has shaken him up, but we’re glad he’s alright. We’ll give him the necessary time before he returns.”
The manager added that they will reassess Lee’s condition over the coming week.
Wrexham, who are currently third in the table, secured a 2-0 win at Northampton thanks to first-half goals from January signings Sam Smith and Ollie Rathbone. They will host Leyton Orient on Tuesday, travel to Mansfield on Saturday, and then face Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy semi-finals next Wednesday.
Parkinson emphasized the importance of having a deep squad during this busy period of league and cup fixtures. “It’s crucial, and that’s why we’ve built a strong squad,” he said. “We’re ready for this run of games and feel prepared.”
