A playdate between the world’s tallest and smallest living dogs, despite their 3-foot height difference, ended up just like most dog park encounters—full of wagging tails, sniffing, and running around.
Reginald, a 7-year-old Great Dane from Idaho, and Pearl, a 4-year-old Chihuahua from Florida, are both record holders certified by Guinness World Records in their respective categories. Despite Reginald’s horse-sized frame and Pearl’s apple-sized stature, the two hit it off and got along wonderfully.
Pearl stands at just 3.59 inches tall and comes from a family of tiny dogs. Her aunt, Millie, also held the same Guinness record for being under 4 inches until her passing in 2020. Both Pearl and Millie weighed just 1 ounce at birth.
Vanesa Semler, Pearl’s owner from Orlando, Florida, was surprised to have another record-holder in her family. “That would be like unbelievable,” she said.
The meeting between Pearl and Reginald, who stands at a massive 3-foot-3, was organized by Guinness and took place last month at Reginald’s home in Idaho Falls. Although Semler was nervous due to Reginald’s large size, Pearl quickly warmed up to him, noting how gentle and friendly he was.
Reginald, on the other hand, seemed more interested in the Guinness crew that accompanied Pearl than the small dog. According to Reginald’s owner, Sam Johnson Reiss, he tends to like people more than other dogs. When meeting Pearl, Reginald was cautious and aware of her small size, making sure not to step on her.
Reginald’s size was apparent from a young age. Even when he was just 9 months old, he towered over other adult Great Danes.
While there was a bit of jealousy over toys and beds, the two dogs enjoyed their time together on Reginald’s Idaho farm, and Semler believes Pearl made a good new friend.
Pearl, known for being a bit of a diva, often picks out her own clothes by pawing at the outfits laid out for her. Now, she’s a diva not only for her owners but also for the public.
However, Reiss says that Reginald also has his moments of diva behavior. He’s mischievous, cheeky, and definitely lets people know when he wants something. In fact, Reginald even has his own Instagram account.
