Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy fail to inspire teams to TGL playoffs

Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club and Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf have both been knocked out of the inaugural season of TGL after failing to secure a playoff spot.

Both Woods and McIlroy, who played key roles in creating the new, part-virtual golf league, were unable to lead their teams to the final four.

McIlroy’s Boston team had a chance to qualify for the playoffs by defeating New York Golf Club on Monday, but they were defeated with a 10-6 loss.

New York’s Cameron Young, Rickie Fowler, and Xander Schauffele made a late comeback to win their tie, securing five points in the final four holes.

Boston needed two points on the last hole to force overtime, but Schauffele kept his composure and sealed the victory with a precise chip from seven feet.

“We were just trying to get into the playoffs after a tough start to the season,” said Fowler from New York. “Going 0-2, we had to dig deep and find our form, and it’s great to be hitting it at the right time.”

With this result, Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club can no longer make the playoffs, even with their final regular season match against Atlanta Drive GC on Wednesday.

New York will now face Los Angeles Golf Club, while The Bay Golf Club will take on Atlanta Drive in the semifinals. The matches are scheduled for March 17-18, with the final taking place the following week.
