Sunderland have finalized the permanent transfer of striker Wilson Isidor from Zenit St Petersburg after a successful loan spell. The 24-year-old French forward has made 33 appearances in the Championship, scoring nine goals since joining Sunderland on loan last summer.
Sunderland exercised the option in the loan agreement to sign Isidor on a permanent basis, and he has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the club. The deal is pending international clearance.
Isidor expressed his excitement about the move, saying, “I’ve been waiting for this moment since my first steps at the club, so I’m very happy. From the very beginning, I felt that Sunderland was home for me and my family.”
He added that the support from fans, including messages he received on his flight from Zenit, made him feel at home. “The fans have always supported me, in both my best and toughest moments,” he said. “I love playing for Sunderland, and this is just the beginning.”
Isidor’s career includes stints at Zenit, Lokomotiv Moscow, AS Monaco, and Stade Rennais, where he won the Russian Premier League, Russian Cup, and Russian Super Cup.
