Any chance Aaron Rodgers had of following in Brett Favre’s footsteps in the NFL seems to be fading fast.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Minnesota Vikings are “not pursuing” Rodgers as he remains on the free agent market. Instead, the Vikings are “moving forward” with J.J. McCarthy as their starting quarterback, having “rejected multiple trade offers” regarding the 2024 first-round pick.
The Minnesota Vikings were initially considered Aaron Rodgers’ top choice for the 2025 NFL offseason. ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared on his podcast that the 41-year-old quarterback expressed a desire to sign with the Vikings.
However, according to reports from The Athletic’s Michael Silver, Dianna Russini, and Alec Lewis, Rodgers had placed the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants “on hold” as he awaited more clarity about the Vikings’ situation.
Aaron Rodgers now has clarity regarding his situation, but it is unlikely to change his timeline for choosing his next team. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the veteran quarterback is in no rush and is carefully considering his options for 2025, including the possibility of retiring.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings are still looking to strengthen their quarterback position. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that the Vikings intend to add a veteran quarterback to their roster after losing Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones to the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts, respectively, in free agency.
McCarthy spent his entire rookie season recovering from a torn meniscus he sustained during his only preseason game. He underwent two surgeries to address the injury.
