Vanderbilt University was fined $500,000 by the Southeastern Conference (SEC) on Sunday for allowing fans to rush the court after the Commodores’ 74-69 win against No. 9 Kentucky on Saturday. This fine was imposed due to a third violation of the conference’s updated policy on access to the competition area. The amount will be paid to the University of Kentucky.
Vanderbilt’s first offense occurred in October when fans stormed the football field after a 40-35 win over Alabama, resulting in a $100,000 fine. The second violation came just a week ago when fans rushed the basketball court after a victory over No. 6 Tennessee, leading to a $250,000 fine. Going forward, any additional violations will result in $500,000 fines.
