Gauff and Fritz put US in United Cup semifinals. Kazakhstan beats Germany to advance

The United States put on an impressive performance on Wednesday to enter the semi-finals of the United Cup mixed tennis tournament. The US, who won the tournament two years ago, recorded a brilliant performance from Coco Goff, Taylor Fritz, and their teammates.

America’s winning performance:

In the first singles match in Perth, Coco Goff defeated Zhang Shuai 7-6 (4), 6-2 to give her team the lead. Goff said after the match, “Shuai played very aggressively. I couldn’t get her to defend. I had to take more risks on my second serve. But it’s nice to get the win.”

Taylor Fritz then defeated Zhang Zhizhen 6-4, 6-4 to seal the team’s victory. Fritz said after the match, “Coco had a great start for the team. Her win put a bit of pressure on me, but I played well.”

Desira Krawczyk and Robert Galloway then beat Zhang and Sun Fajing 6-3, 6-7 (1), 10-3 in mixed doubles to complete the US’s 3-0 win. The U.S. will now face either Italy or the Czech Republic in the semifinals.

Kazakhstan win over Germany:

In another match, Kazakhstan beat Germany 2-1 to reach the semi-finals. Germany’s world number two Alexander Zverev suffered a major setback when he withdrew from the match with a biceps injury.

Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina defeated Laura Siegemund 6-3, 6-1 to give the team the lead. Alexander Shevchenko then beat Zverev’s replacement Daniel Masur 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-2. Heat forced Shevchenko to take a medical break in the match, but he controlled the match and won.

Poland’s successful fight:

In Sydney, Iga Swiatek and Hubert Harkaz sent Poland into the mixed doubles semi-finals, defeating Tomasz Machach and Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (3), 6-3.

Earlier, Machach defeated Harkaz 7-5, 3-6, 6-4, while Swiatek leveled the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Muchova. In the last match, Poland won decisively.

Britain’s place in the last eight:

Britain’s Katie Boulter defeated Australia’s Olivia Gadeki 6-2, 6-1 to book her place in the last eight. “I knew I needed to win in straight sets. It was a defining moment for me,” Boulter said.

Australia’s Alex De Minor defeated Billy Harris 6-2, 6-1 to tie the match. However, despite winning the mixed doubles, Australia failed to qualify for the next round.

Italy’s success:

Italy won Group D and entered the finals. Playing without world number one Janic Siner, Italy has won the Davis Cup twice.

All matches will shift to Sydney on Thursday and the final will be played on Sunday.
