President Donald Trump is setting up a task force to oversee preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games, which will be held in Los Angeles.

The White House announced that Trump will formalize the creation of this task force by signing an executive order on Tuesday.

The 2028 Summer Olympics will mark the first time the U.S. hosts the Games since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized Trump’s enthusiasm for sports, calling it one of his “greatest passions,” and said the president sees it as “a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle.”

Casey Wasserman, president and chair of LA28, praised the task force as “an important step forward” in the planning process. He highlighted the shared goal of delivering not only the largest but also the “greatest Games the world has ever seen” when the Summer Olympics arrive in 2028.

In addition to the Olympics, Trump has expressed excitement about the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico during his second term.

In anticipation of the World Cup, officials from the three countries announced they held their first meeting of a trilateral coordinating council on Tuesday. This group, composed of government representatives, industry leaders, and security experts, will work together on key issues including preparations for potential security threats during the tournament.
