The University of Florida has announced that men’s basketball coach Todd Golden will remain in his role despite being under investigation for potential violations related to Title IX. The investigation centers on allegations that Golden engaged in sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, stalking, and cyberstalking involving several women.
In a statement released Sunday evening, the university confirmed that there would be no change to Golden’s position while the inquiry is ongoing. Golden is expected to coach the 2-0 Gators as they play against Grambling State on Monday night.
The formal Title IX complaint was filed on September 27, but details of the investigation were only made public on Friday after The Alligator, the university’s student newspaper, reported the story. The report included information that was corroborated by two former students.
Todd Golden, in his third year as head coach, confirmed on Saturday that he is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. He has also retained attorney Ken Turkel to represent him in connection with a potential defamation lawsuit.
At 39 years old, Golden has a 42-29 record during his tenure at the University of Florida, including guiding the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance last season.
