Kevin De Bruyne has announced his decision to leave Manchester City, confirming that these are his “final months” with the Premier League champions. The 33-year-old Belgian midfielder, whose contract expires this summer, shared the emotional news on social media.

“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here,” he wrote.

Since joining Manchester City from Wolfsburg in 2015 for around $71 million, De Bruyne has become a key figure in the club’s success, winning every major honor, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League. Over his time at City, he has helped secure 16 major trophies, including the Club World Cup, solidifying his place as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats.

He expressed deep gratitude towards the club and its fans: “This city. This club. These people… gave me EVERYTHING. I had no choice but to give EVERYTHING back! And guess what — we won EVERYTHING. Whether we like it or not, it’s time to say goodbye.”

City manager Pep Guardiola called the announcement a “sad day,” praising De Bruyne’s extraordinary contributions. “In the Premier League, he is one of the greatest midfielders ever to play in this country. His assists, his goals, his vision in the final third — that is so difficult to replace,” Guardiola said.

De Bruyne has not confirmed whether he will participate in the Club World Cup, scheduled for June and July in the United States, nor has he revealed his next destination.

With 118 Premier League assists, De Bruyne ranks second all-time behind Ryan Giggs, who tallied 162 assists in 632 appearances. Remarkably, De Bruyne reached his total in just 280 matches.

Originally joining Chelsea from Genk in 2012, De Bruyne grew frustrated after limited opportunities and moved to Wolfsburg in 2014, where he reignited his career. His performances there earned him a record-breaking transfer to Manchester City.

Over his career with City, De Bruyne has played 413 matches in all competitions and has been named PFA Player of the Year twice. His legacy at the club will be remembered for his unmatched vision, creativity, and dedication.
