When Elon Musk introduced Tesla’s humanoid robot in 2021, he announced a 5- foot-8- inch- tall assistant robot with artificial intelligence. However, as of now, Tesla has only released a seven- inch- tall lookalike action figure.
The Tesla Bot action figure went on sale Saturday, and the $40 toy sold out within 24 hours, according to Teslarati, a media outlet that covers Tesla, SpaceX, and Musk. The figure was still out of stock as of Monday, and customers were only given the option to register for re- availability.
Tesla calls the figure “your little automated assistant and humanoid friend.”
“The Tesla Bot Action Figure is a 1:10 scale (good for collecting) and playable figure, with over 40 different parts and 20 joints for movement. It’s made to look and move just like our Generation 2 humanoid robot,” the company’s product description says.
Along with the figure, customers also get a charging stand and a “Cyberhammer” accessory.
Currently, the only way to buy a Tesla Bot action figure is through resale on eBay, where prices range from $130 to over $1,300.
There is no word yet on how long it will take for Tesla customers to receive the toy or when it will be back in stock.
During an earnings call on July 23, Musk said that Tesla will begin limited production of its first version of the Optimus humanoid robot early next year. However, these robots will be for the company’s use only, so that they can solve their own problems.
“By the end of next year, we’ll see thousands of Optimus robots doing useful work in Tesla factories,” Musk said during the talk.
Musk explained that the company will ramp up production of the robot in 2026, and then another version of the machine will be available to external customers.
