The Kansas City Chiefs may be on the brink of making history this weekend, but ticket prices for Super Bowl LIX aren’t reflecting the excitement.

According to secondary ticket marketplace TickPick, the cheapest ticket for this year’s game in New Orleans has dropped below $4,000, marking a 30% decrease in price over the past week and more than 50% cheaper than last year’s record-breaking Super Bowl.

The Chiefs, who are set to face off against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, are aiming to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles. However, fans don’t seem as eager to shell out large amounts for tickets this time around.

Several factors are likely contributing to the dip in prices, particularly the location of this year’s game and potential Chiefs fatigue. Last year’s Super Bowl, held in Las Vegas, was the most expensive on record, partly due to the city’s appeal. New Orleans, on the other hand, doesn’t quite have the same allure, according to TickPick CEO Brett Goldberg.

Another factor affecting prices is the larger seating capacity at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, which can hold about 74,000 seats compared to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, which holds roughly 65,000. Additionally, the city is still recovering from a tragic terrorist attack that took place last month, in which a man drove a truck into a crowd, killing 14 people and injuring at least 35.

There’s also the matchup itself, with some fans seeming less enthusiastic about a third straight Super Bowl appearance by the Chiefs. Goldberg explained that there would likely be more demand if a team like the Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders, or Buffalo Bills were playing, resulting in higher ticket prices.

While Super Bowl tickets aren’t breaking records, TV ad prices for the event are. Fox has sold several commercial spots for over $8 million each, a significant increase from the $7 million originally sought for a 30-second ad slot.

Super Bowl LIX is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 pm ET on Sunday, airing on Fox and for the first time, streaming for free on Tubi.
