The Los Angeles Rams parted ways with wide receiver Cooper Kupp on Wednesday after they were unable to find a trade partner before the start of the NFL’s new league year.

However, Kupp didn’t remain a free agent for long. By Friday, he had signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Kupp played 12 games for the Rams last season, finishing with 67 receptions, 710 yards, and six touchdowns. He primarily took on the role of Los Angeles’ second receiver, as second-year player Puka Nacua emerged as Matthew Stafford’s top target after an impressive rookie season.

The Seahawks provided one of the more amusing confirmations of a player’s signing during this free agency period by sharing a picture of a cup.

Kupp was named a first-team All-Pro in 2021 after leading the NFL in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), and touchdowns (19), becoming the first wide receiver to win the league’s triple crown since Steve Smith Sr. in 2005.

However, since that standout season, Kupp has appeared in only 33 of 51 possible regular-season games due to injury struggles. Over this period, he has averaged 753 receiving yards per season, with his highest total being 812 yards in 2022.

Kupp’s injury struggles contributed to the Rams deciding to release him. They replaced him with veteran wide receiver Davante Adams, who has consistently posted over 1,000 receiving yards in five consecutive seasons. Adams achieved this impressive feat while playing for three different teams: the Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders, and New York Jets.
