Spotify says it’s back after an hourslong outage disrupts thousands of users

Spotify experienced a major outage on Wednesday, with tens of thousands of users reporting problems with the popular music streaming service. Hours later, the company confirmed the issue had been resolved.

“All clear — thanks for your patience,” Spotify announced shortly after noon Eastern Time. They also directed users needing help to their support account.

Earlier in the morning, many users had trouble accessing both the app and desktop site. Common issues included songs not playing, the search function not working, and difficulties accessing Spotify’s support page.

According to the company, the outage began around 6:20 a.m. ET and service was restored by 11:45 a.m. ET. Reports of problems peaked at about 9:30 a.m., when more than 48,000 users reported issues. By early afternoon, that number had dropped to under 1,500.

Spotify did not provide details on the cause of the outage, but clarified that it was not the result of a security breach.

The Stockholm-based platform currently has over 675 million users worldwide, including 263 million paid subscribers across more than 180 countries.
