Sony announced that it will increase the prices of some PlayStation 5 consoles starting Monday in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, citing global economic challenges. The company explained that the decision to raise prices by at least 10% was made in response to factors such as high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates.

The new recommended retail price for the PS5 Digital Edition in Europe will be 499 euros ($570), up from 449 euros in the last price update in 2022. In the U.K., the price will rise to 430 pounds ($565), from 389 pounds. In Australia, the PS5 Digital Edition will cost 749 Australian dollars ($474), an increase from $649, while in New Zealand, it will be priced at 859 New Zealand dollars ($504).

The PS5 Digital Edition is a version of the console without a disc drive. Sony confirmed that the price for the standard PlayStation 5, which includes a Blu-ray Disc drive, as well as the PS5 Pro, will remain unchanged in both Europe and the U.K.

The price increase comes amid continued uncertainty in global supply chains, partly due to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent tariff actions, which have affected international trade, including electronics. Despite the ongoing economic challenges, Sony’s price adjustments reflect the company’s response to the difficult financial climate.
