Jannik Sinner has evened the score in the Wimbledon men’s final, winning the second set 6-4 against Carlos Alcaraz after dropping the opener by the same score.

Alcaraz had secured the first set in what has been a highly anticipated clash, coming just over a month after their intense showdown in the French Open final. However, Sinner struck early in the second, breaking the Spaniard’s serve in the opening game and maintaining control from there.

A brief moment of disruption occurred when a champagne cork popped from the crowd as Sinner prepared to serve at 2-1, with the cork landing at his feet. Alcaraz reacted with visible frustration, raising his arms and shaking his head. Sinner briefly lost focus and dropped the next point but recovered quickly to hold serve and push ahead 3-1.

This final marks a historic matchup at Centre Court, as Sinner and Alcaraz become the first pair since Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to face off in both the French Open and Wimbledon finals in the same season — a feat last achieved between 2006 and 2008.

Alcaraz, 22, from Spain, triumphed over Italy’s Sinner in a dramatic five-set French Open final on June 8. That match lasted nearly five and a half hours, with Alcaraz coming back from two sets down and saving three match points. He remains unbeaten in Grand Slam finals, having already clinched Wimbledon titles in both 2023 and 2024, and is riding a personal-best 24-match winning streak.

Sinner, also 22, owns three Grand Slam titles and is competing in his fourth consecutive major final — though this is his first at Wimbledon. He claimed the U.S. Open title last September and followed it up with a win at the Australian Open in January.

On court, Sinner is wearing protective tape and a sleeve on his right elbow, a precaution since a fall during his fourth-round match earlier in the tournament. After defeating Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, Sinner indicated the elbow was feeling fine ahead of the final.
