Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani hit a massive solo home run in his return to the Tokyo Dome, launching a ball off Chicago Cubs pitcher Nate Pearson that just cleared the right-center field fence on Wednesday night.
Ohtani smacked a 99 mph fastball from Pearson, and the ball soared through the air, thrilling the crowd as it headed toward the outfield. A few fans tried to catch it but missed, while Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong tossed the ball back into the stands.
The home run stood after an umpire review, giving the Dodgers a 6-2 lead, much to the excitement of the roughly 42,000 fans in attendance.
It was yet another moment where Ohtani showed up big for the occasion. The 30-year-old also hit a home run in an exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants on Saturday.
This homer marked Ohtani’s third hit in the two-game Tokyo Series. He had previously gone 2 for 5 with a double and a single in the Dodgers’ 4-1 victory over the Cubs on Tuesday.
