Reigning 100-meter world champion Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested last weekend following an alleged domestic incident involving her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

According to a police report, Richardson was taken into custody on Sunday on a charge of fourth-degree domestic violence. She was booked into the South Correctional Entity (SCORE) in Des Moines, Washington, at 6:54 p.m. and released the next day at 1:13 p.m.

Despite the arrest, Richardson competed on Thursday in the first round of the women’s 100 meters at the U.S. track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. As the current world champion, she holds an automatic qualification spot for the world championships in Tokyo this September.

USA Track and Field acknowledged the situation in a brief statement but declined to offer further comment. Richardson’s agent has not responded to media inquiries.

The police report detailed that a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) supervisor alerted airport police to a dispute involving Richardson and her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman. Surveillance footage showed Richardson grabbing Coleman’s backpack and pulling it from him. She then appeared to block his path, causing him to be pushed against a wall.

The report also mentioned Richardson may have thrown an object — possibly headphones — at Coleman. According to the officer, Coleman declined to pursue charges and chose not to participate in the investigation.

Richardson captured the 100-meter title at the 2023 world championships in Budapest and later earned silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She was also part of the U.S. 4×100-meter relay team that won Olympic gold.

Earlier in her career, Richardson missed the 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to a positive marijuana test following the U.S. Olympic trials.
