The Seattle Seahawks are undergoing another reset in 2025, although it’s not as significant as last year’s overhaul.
On Monday, the team parted ways with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb after just one season, a decision confirmed by head coach Mike Macdonald. Macdonald explained, “I felt like the direction our offense was going didn’t align with the vision I had for the football team.”
Grubb, 48, was brought in by Macdonald last offseason from the University of Washington with the goal of establishing a more aggressive downfield passing attack. However, under Grubb’s direction, the Seahawks ranked 14th in total offense (332.2 yards per game) and 18th in scoring (22.1 points per game). Meanwhile, quarterback Geno Smith faced constant pressure, and the team’s run game, which ranked 28th in the league, struggled to provide any significant support.
After the Seattle Seahawks secured a 10-7 record to wrap up coach Mike Macdonald’s first season, quarterback Geno Smith expressed support for offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. “I think Grubb is an excellent coordinator and an even better person,” Smith said. “In our first year, there were definitely some ups and downs. There are areas we need to improve, and we’ll work hard to fix those. But I believe in this system. I believe it’s a great system, and it will be successful for a long time.”
When asked if Geno Smith would be the team’s quarterback next season, coach Mike Macdonald responded, “I have no reason to say no, so I guess yeah.”
