There are conflicting reports regarding a deadly attack on a boarding school in Sudzha, a city in Russia’s Kursk region, which has been under Ukrainian control for the past five months. Both Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of carrying out the strike.
According to Ukraine’s Armed Forces General Staff, the attack left four people dead and four others seriously injured, while 84 people were rescued from the rubble by Ukrainian soldiers. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Moscow was responsible for bombing the school, where civilians had been sheltering and preparing to evacuate.
The General Staff added that those needing further medical care were transported to healthcare facilities in Ukraine.
On the other hand, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that Ukrainian forces were behind the missile strike, alleging the missiles were launched from Ukraine’s Sumy region early on Sunday.
The death toll from a Russian missile strike on an apartment block in the Ukrainian city of Poltava on Saturday has increased to 14, including two children, according to local officials. The attack, which targeted a five-story building, also left 17 people injured, as reported by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
Moscow launched 55 drones into Ukraine overnight on Sunday, according to Ukrainian officials. The Air Force reported that 40 of the drones were destroyed during the attacks, and another 13 were likely jammed electronically and “lost.”
In the Kharkiv region, two people were injured in a drone strike early Sunday morning, as reported by regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov. Later in the day, five people were wounded when a Russian drone hit a bus in Kherson, according to local Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry stated that five Ukrainian drones were downed in western Russia overnight, with three being intercepted over the Kursk region and one each over Belgorod and Bryansk regions.
In Belgorod, a man was killed in a drone strike, confirmed by regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
