A runaway pet zebra named Ed, who had been on the loose for over a week in Tennessee and captured widespread attention online, was safely caught on Sunday, officials announced.
Ed was found in a pasture near a residential area in the Christiana community of central Tennessee, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. The zebra was captured by aviation teams.
The sheriff’s office shared that Ed was airlifted by helicopter and transported back to a waiting animal trailer. Video released showed Ed wrapped in a net with his head exposed as he was carried by the helicopter.
Ed first appeared in Christiana on May 30, and his owner reported him missing the following day.
At one point, Ed was seen running along Interstate 24, which led deputies to temporarily close the highway. However, he managed to escape into nearby woods before being caught.
