Rosie O’Donnell made a significant life change in 2025. The actress and comedian shared a video on TikTok, revealing that she moved to Ireland with her 12-year-old child, Clay, in mid-January. She mentioned, “Although I never imagined moving to another country, I felt it was the best decision for me and my child.”
O’Donnell explained that she relocated to Ireland on January 15 and is currently in the process of obtaining Irish citizenship due to her Irish heritage from her grandparents. She described her experience in Ireland as “pretty wonderful,” praising the warm, welcoming nature of the people, expressing her gratitude.
However, she admitted to missing her other children, friends, and various aspects of life back in the United States. O’Donnell also shared that she is in the process of finding a home in Ireland, stating, “When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights in America, then we will consider coming back.”
She expressed her heartbreak over the current political situation in the U.S., acknowledging that, as always, “the personal is political.”
In the video, O’Donnell later explained why she decided to share news of her move at this time.
She said, “I just felt like we needed to take care of ourselves, make some tough decisions, and follow through. Now that we’re getting settled, I felt it was the right time to share what’s been going on.”
O’Donnell isn’t the only celebrity who has recently moved out of the U.S. Other well-known figures, including Eva Longoria, Ellen DeGeneres, Richard Gere, and more, have also relocated abroad in recent months.
