The Diontae Johnson experiment in Baltimore ended after just four games, one catch, and a suspension for what the Ravens cited as refusal to enter a game.
On Friday morning, the Ravens waived the veteran wide receiver and promoted Anthony Miller from the practice squad to take his place.
Baltimore had acquired Johnson in a trade with Carolina on October 29, sending a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Panthers in exchange for Johnson and a sixth-round pick.
Johnson was suspended for Baltimore’s Week 15 game against the New York Giants due to conduct deemed detrimental to the team.
Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta stated, “We have made the difficult decision to suspend Diontae Johnson for our upcoming game against the New York Giants due to conduct detrimental to the team.” He explained that the suspension was a result of Johnson refusing to enter the game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Since Diontae Johnson has more than four years of NFL experience, he has been officially released and is free to sign with any team right away, bypassing the waiver process.
Johnson was a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the offseason, he was traded to Carolina, with the Panthers sending cornerback Donte Jackson and a sixth-round pick to the Steelers in exchange for Johnson and a seventh-round pick.
This season, Johnson has played in 11 games (eight as a starter), recording 31 receptions for 363 yards and three touchdowns on 63 targets.
