Rangers have secured a loan deal for Lille defender Rafael Fernandes for the rest of the season, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.
The 22-year-old Portuguese player joined Lille from Arouca in Portugal a year ago but has yet to make an appearance in Ligue 1. Rangers, dealing with a series of defensive injuries, have signed Fernandes to help bolster their defense. John Souttar and Dujon Sterling are both currently injured, while Neraysho Kasanwirjo is out long-term.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement expressed optimism about Fernandes, saying, “He is a young defender with many qualities that will benefit our team. He has a lot of potential, and I’m excited to work with him.”
Fernandes, who has represented Portugal at under-18 and under-20 levels, shared his excitement about joining Rangers: “This is a club I was eager to join once I knew of their interest. I’m very happy to finally be here. My first impressions have been great. I’ve met some of the players and staff, and they’ve all made me feel welcome as I begin this new chapter.”
