Queen Camilla, the wife of King Charles III, has been forced to cancel her scheduled engagements this week due to a chest infection, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Tuesday.
At 77 years old, Camilla is currently resting at home while she recovers, but the palace has not provided additional details about her condition, as is customary with royal health matters.
A spokesperson for the palace stated, “Her Majesty The Queen is unwell with a chest infection, and her doctors have recommended a short period of rest.”
As a result, Camilla will miss her planned activities for the week but hopes to recover in time to participate in this weekend’s Remembrance services as scheduled.
The news comes at a time when King Charles is also facing his own health challenges. In February, the palace disclosed that the king had been diagnosed with cancer. Prior to the public announcement of his diagnosis, Charles had undergone a “corrective procedure” at The London Clinic after it was previously stated that the 75-year-old monarch was receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate. The palace has not disclosed the specific type of cancer the king is battling.
In September, Princess Kate shared that she had completed chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis. Earlier in March, the Princess of Wales revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer and would be undergoing preventive chemotherapy. In her update, Kate explained that she is now focused on doing everything she can to stay cancer-free, although she acknowledged that her “journey to healing and full recovery” is still a long one.
The Princess of Wales has begun to gradually resume her public duties, making a surprise appearance alongside Prince William in Southport, England. During the visit, they met with emergency services personnel and the families of victims affected by a mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.
