OpenAI and Nvidia, along with other companies, are partnering to create Stargate UAE, an artificial intelligence infrastructure cluster in Abu Dhabi. This initiative complements a similar effort to expand AI infrastructure in the United States, where OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle previously announced plans to invest up to $500 billion in a project called Stargate.

The new UAE project involves OpenAI, SoftBank, Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and local company G42. They revealed plans for a 200-megawatt AI cluster expected to be operational by 2026. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described Stargate UAE as a move to foster innovation in areas such as safer medicines, personalized education, and modern energy solutions, benefiting a broad global population.

OpenAI highlighted that Stargate UAE will provide AI infrastructure and computing power covering a 2,000-mile radius, potentially serving up to half of the world’s population. This marks the first international deployment of OpenAI’s Stargate AI infrastructure platform, developed with close cooperation from the US government.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized that the project will support the UAE’s ambitions to empower its citizens, grow its economy, and shape its future. G42 is responsible for building the facility, with OpenAI and Oracle managing operations, while Nvidia supplies cutting-edge chips.

The cluster will be located in a new data center complex in Abu Dhabi, which will have 5 gigawatts of power capacity, enough to support a large city. This complex, announced during a recent US-UAE collaboration, is planned to eventually cover 10 square miles.
