Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand was crowned Miss World during the 72nd edition of the international beauty pageant, held in Hyderabad, a city in southern India. She emerged as the winner among 108 contestants from around the world.
The first runner-up was Hasset Dereje Admassu from Ethiopia. Chuangsri received her crown from the previous titleholder, Krystyna Pyszková.
The event was co-hosted by Stephanie del Valle, Miss World 2016, and Indian presenter Sachiin Kumbhar. India, which also hosted the pageant last year, saw its representative Nandini Gupta reach the top 20 before being eliminated.
India has a proud history at Miss World, with six winners to date: Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), Priyanka Chopra (2000), and Manushi Chhillar (2017).
