Ole Miss freshman defensive lineman Corey Adams was tragically shot and killed Saturday night in Cordova, Tennessee, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities discovered the 18-year-old inside a vehicle at a nearby intersection on the outskirts of Memphis, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures before Shelby County Fire personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Four other men were also shot in the same incident but sustained non-life-threatening injuries; they reached local hospitals in personal vehicles.
No suspects have been publicly identified yet, and the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.
Adams, originally from New Orleans, was among the nation’s top defensive lineman recruits. The University of Mississippi football program described the loss as “devastating,” extending thoughts and prayers to his family and requesting privacy during this difficult time.
His former high school team, the Edna Karr Cougars, paid tribute to Adams as “more than a football player… a friend, brother, son, student, and all-around great young man,” stating, “words can’t describe this type of pain.”
