Myles Garrett is set to remain with the Cleveland Browns after signing a record-breaking four-year contract extension, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.
According to a source familiar with the deal, Garrett’s contract includes $122.8 million in guaranteed money, an average annual salary of $40 million, and a total value of $204.8 million. The specifics of the contract were not publicly disclosed, and the source requested anonymity.
Garrett, who was named the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, had requested a trade just a month prior, but the Browns were firm in their intention to keep the 29-year-old defensive star in Cleveland.
This contract sets a new standard for non-quarterbacks in the NFL, including players like Ja’Marr Chase of the Bengals and Micah Parsons of the Cowboys. Chase’s team has already indicated plans to make him the highest-paid non-QB in the league.
Garrett, selected by the Browns in the first round of the 2017 draft, recorded 14 sacks and 22 tackles for loss last season. Over his eight years with the Browns, he has accumulated 102 1/2 sacks. However, he has only appeared in three playoff games with the team.
