The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) will have a new broadcast home this year, as CBS announced it will air the show for the first time. The three-hour event is scheduled to go live on Sunday, September 7, from the UBS Arena just outside New York City. It will also be simulcast on MTV and streamed on Paramount+, the same platforms that aired last year’s ceremony. Additionally, a one-hour live pre-show will be available across Paramount Media Networks.
CBS, known for hosting major award shows like the Tony Awards and the American Music Awards, has been the home of the Grammys since 1973, although that show will move to ABC in 2027.
At the 2024 VMAs, Taylor Swift dominated the night, winning seven awards, including the prestigious Video of the Year for her hit “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. This victory brought her total VMA wins to 30, tying her with Beyoncé as the most-awarded artist in VMA history. Eminem holds the record for the most VMAs won by a male artist, with 15.
Since its inception in 1984, the VMAs have become a staple in the music industry, celebrating the biggest names and trends in music videos. Nominees and performers for this year’s event will be announced closer to the show date.
