Former Newcastle United and Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic missed training with Al-Hilal due to an abnormal heart rhythm.
The 30-year-old was reportedly taken to the hospital after scoring in Al-Hilal’s 2-0 victory over Al-Fayha on March 7. This came shortly after Mitrovic had returned from a hamstring injury that had sidelined him since January.
Al-Hilal stated in a release that the medical team decided to rest Mitrovic from training on Sunday due to his fatigue and arrhythmia. His condition will be closely monitored by specialists.
Mitrovic, who joined Al-Hilal from Fulham in August 2023 for a record transfer fee, had previously made 205 appearances for Fulham, scoring 111 goals after joining from Newcastle in 2018. He set a Championship scoring record with 43 goals in 44 games during Fulham’s promotion-winning season of 2021-22 and netted 38 goals in 129 Premier League appearances for both Fulham and Newcastle.
Al-Hilal is set to play against Pakhtakor from Uzbekistan in the second leg of their AFC Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday. The Saudi club has not confirmed whether Mitrovic, who has scored 13 goals in 14 Saudi Pro League matches this season, will be available for the match.
