Legendary Australian swimmer Emma McKeon has announced her retirement from competitive swimming. McKeon, 30, has won a total of 14 medals in three Olympic events, including six golds.

“I am announcing my official retirement from competitive swimming,” McKeon wrote in his Instagram post. “While preparing for the Paris Olympics, I realized that this would be my last Olympic competition. The time since then has given me the opportunity to reflect on my journey and what life will look like next.”
Proud of the entire contribution
McKeon is proud of her swimming journey. “I gave my full strength physically and mentally to my career. I wanted to know what I could reach – and I proved it,” she said.
Initial journey to successful pinnacle:-
McKeon first competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she won three relay medals and a bronze medal in the 200m freestyle. She then won seven medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, including four golds. This remarkable achievement made her the most decorated Australian athlete at the Olympics, surpassing the record of nine medals held by Australia’s Ian Thorpe and Liesl Jones.
The last game at the Paris Olympics
McKeon earned three more medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, bringing her medal tally to 14. This success throughout her career made her a role model for swimming fans around the world.
Beginning of a new phase of life:-
“Now I’m excited to see what other ways I can push myself outside of swimming. I’m ready to experience what life has in store for me,” McKeon said. Following her decision to retire, Australian swimming coach Rohan Taylor praised McKeon. “She always kept her demeanor disciplined and dignified. Even though she appeared gracious in public, the general public could not understand how hard- working she was,” Taylor said.
