Basketball legend LeBron James has made history as the first professional male athlete to be featured in a Ken doll. Mattel Inc. introduced the LeBron Ken doll on Wednesday as part of its new “Kenbassador” series. This follows the release of nine female athlete Barbie dolls, including tennis icon Venus Williams, last year.

LeBron James shared his excitement about the collaboration, reflecting on the importance of role models. “As a young kid, I was fortunate to have role models who not only inspired me but also showed me what’s possible through hard work and dedication,” James said. “Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to. Partnering with Barbie for the release of the LeBron James Kenbassadors doll is an honor and an opportunity to highlight the power of role models who inspire dreams and help kids see that they, too, can achieve greatness.”

The doll features James in sunglasses, headphones, and a blue-and-white letterman jacket with his initials “LJ” and number 23. The jacket also includes Ohio and crown patches, while his T-shirt displays the phrase “We Are Family,” a tribute to the LeBron James Family Foundation. His signature blue Nike shoes complete the look.

Priced at $75, the doll will be available for purchase starting Monday.

In a video where James first saw the doll, he couldn’t contain his enthusiasm, calling it “dope,” a term he used to express how cool he thought it was. James also took the time to add his signature “I Promise” wristband to the doll and adjusted its fanny pack.

Krista Berger, Mattel’s senior vice president, shared that the Ken doll’s new appearance is a celebration of LeBron’s cultural impact, his iconic status, and his commitment to being a positive role model for the next generation.
