Travis Kelce has made it clear that he has no intention of retiring anytime soon, even if the Kansas City Chiefs win a third consecutive Super Bowl this Sunday.
The 35-year-old tight end’s future has been a topic of speculation recently, partly due to his growing off-field fame from his relationship with pop star Taylor Swift and his popular sports podcast. At a press event on Monday night before the Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, Kelce was asked about his plans for the next few years.
Kelce shared that he hopes to still be playing football in three years, stating, “I love doing this, I love coming into work every day. I feel like I still have a lot of good football left in me.” While he is focused on continuing his career on the field, Kelce also mentioned that he has been preparing for life after football, working on other opportunities in his offseason. However, for now, he plans to remain with the Chiefs and keep playing football.
Travis Kelce is still performing at a high level, although he may not be quite as dominant as he once was. This season, he recorded 97 receptions, but his total yardage was 823 yards with just three touchdowns.
Travis Kelce had a standout performance in the divisional round against Houston, recording seven catches for 117 yards. Heading into the Super Bowl, he holds the record for the most playoff receptions ever (174) and ranks second behind Hall of Famer Jerry Rice in receiving yards (2,039) and touchdown catches (20).
During opening night, Kelce was a media favorite, surrounded by a large group of reporters for the entire hour as they asked him questions about everything from football to dancing and even whether he planned to propose to Taylor Swift if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl. He jokingly responded, “A Super Bowl ring? Next question.”
Kelce also shared that his relationship with Swift motivates him on the field. He feels driven to match her work ethic and dedication. “I better hold up my end of the bargain,” he said, noting that if she can maintain her superstar status by working relentlessly, he needs to do the same to stay at the top of his game.
