Famous Hollywood actor- actress Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s eight-year-long controversial divorce has finally come to an end. According to documents filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the couple entered into a written agreement on marital and property rights.
Jolie’s attorney James Simon said in a statement, “Angelina filed for divorce eight years ago. She and the children have relinquished all assets and are focused on peace and improving the family’s health. This is part of a long process, and they are relieved.” That phase is now complete.”
The divorce agreement stipulates that the spouses will not receive any financial support in the future. However, no further details have been given in this regard. The deal is yet to be approved by a judge.
Background of the controversial event:
Angelina Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. Brad Pitt was accused of physically assaulting Jolie and her children during a private plane trip at the time. The case was investigated by the FBI and the Department of Child Protection, but the investigation was closed after no charges were substantiated.
A judge declared the couple legally separate in 2019, but disputes over property division and child custody continued.
Disputes over child custody:
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have six children. As four of the children are now adults, the question of their custody is over. However, the custody issue regarding 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivian is still pending.
Jolie fought against the private judge, saying she had not disclosed her conflict of interest. The judgment of the private judge was therefore set aside and the whole process started again.
Controversial questions on property:
Jolie and Pitt’s Chateau Miraval winery in France is also under controversy. Pitt alleges that Jolie sold her stake to an outside company. Pitt called the sale illegal and motivated by revenge.
Changes in personal life:
Pitt admitted in a 2017 interview that his drinking habits had taken a toll on his family. Since the incident, he has been undergoing therapy and trying to improve. Jolie, on the other hand, has focused her life on raising her children.
Despite these divorce proceedings, both their professional lives have taken off. Jolie is currently in Oscar buzz for her upcoming film “Maria,” while Pitt won an Oscar for Best Performance in “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.”
The final stage:
Although the divorce ended the dispute between the spouses, some legal issues such as the winery case are still pending. The divorce has been one of the longest and most controversial cases in Hollywood history.
