Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan has responded to calls for his resignation from former President Donald Trump, asserting that he has always operated with the highest legal and ethical standards.

On Thursday, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, demanding that Tan step down immediately, describing him as “highly CONFLICTED” and saying there was no alternative solution.

This controversy arose after Senator Tom Cotton sent a letter to Intel’s Chairman Frank Yeary, raising concerns about Tan’s investments and connections to semiconductor companies reportedly linked to the Chinese Communist Party and the People’s Liberation Army. Cotton requested the board clarify whether Tan had divested his interests to avoid any conflict of interest.

It remains unclear whether Tan has sold off these holdings since taking over as Intel CEO in March.

The U.S.-China rivalry increasingly centers on technology sectors such as computer chips and artificial intelligence, areas critical for future economic and military power.

Intel released a statement emphasizing its commitment to advancing U.S. national and economic security, highlighting significant investments aligned with the President’s America First agenda.

Tan also addressed employees directly, noting misinformation regarding his past roles at Walden International and Cadence Design Systems and reaffirming his adherence to proper ethical standards.

He added that Intel is actively communicating with the current administration to clarify the issues raised. “I fully share the President’s commitment to advancing U.S. national and economic security, I appreciate his leadership to advance these priorities, and I’m proud to lead a company that is so central to these goals,” Tan said.

Following the news, Intel’s stock saw a modest increase in premarket trading on Friday.
