Hyundai Motors has decided to recall more than 34,000 of its cars. The reason behind this is the problem of sudden closing of the sunshade, which poses a risk of injury to passengers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem has been found in 2024 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid vehicles.
Sunshade switch fault dangerous for passengers:
According to NHTSA’s report, a flaw in the design of the sunshade switch may cause the sunshade to close inadvertently. “The rear sunshade switch knob in the overhead console is not fully recessed, causing the sunshade to close suddenly,” the recall notice states.
The recall includes more than 26,000 Santa Fe vehicles and nearly 8,000 Santa Fe Hybrid vehicles. The concerned dealerships will replace the faulty switch knobs, and this service will be absolutely free. Letters informing the owners of the cars will be sent from January 6, 2025.
Recalls have already happened this year:
This is not the first recall for Santa Fe models. In July, Hyundai recalled more than 12,000 cars. At the time, a software bug caused a problem with the transmission control unit, causing the car to suddenly move while in park.
Also, another recall at the same time involved more than 54,000 vehicles. That recall said there was a risk of problems with drive power due to fuel pump failure. The following cars were included in the recall at the time:
- 2019-2023 Genesis G70
- 2022-2023 Hyundai Elantra N
- 2022-2023 Hyundai Kona N
- 2019-2022 Hyundai Veloster N
These types of issues are a concern for Hyundai. Although free service is currently offered to fix the defect, such constant recalls are likely to increase consumer negativity towards the brand.
