Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball issued an apology on Sunday night after making a comment the NBA deemed “offensive and derogatory,” resulting in a $100,000 fine. The incident occurred after the Hornets’ 115-114 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday. During a post-game interview with FanDuel Sports Network, Ball was asked by sideline reporter Shannon Spake about the team’s defensive strategy against Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo during the final play of the game. In his response, Ball used an anti-gay slur. The NBA swiftly responded, imposing the maximum fine on the 23-year-old player. Following a subsequent loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Ball addressed the controversy for the first time.
