Honda has issued a second major vehicle recall in the month of October, this time due to the possibility of fuel leakage on more than 7 lakh vehicles. This fuel leak could potentially be caused by a cracked fuel pump.
Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall last week. This includes some Honda Accord, Civic and Hybrid models, and a total of 720,810 vehicles are likely to be affected. According to this notice, faulty manufacturing of the high- pressure fuel pump can lead to cracks, which can grow as the pump operates. This can cause fuel leaks and increase the risk of serious injury, warns NHTSA.
In early October, Honda recalled 1.7 million vehicles due to a steering wheel problem. After that, this is the second major requisition.
According to Honda, the high- pressure fuel pump in these affected vehicles has not been manufactured correctly. Defects in this manufacturing process can cause cracks in the fuel pump core and result in fuel leakage. If this leak occurs near the fuel source, the risk of fire or accident increases.
In some cases, there have been reports of smelling gas while driving or stationary. Therefore, it has become imperative to solve this problem at the earliest.
To save motorists from worrying about this problem, Honda dealers will inspect the fuel pump and replace it if necessary, free of charge. Letters in this regard will be sent to customers on December 4, 2024. Vehicle owners are asked to contact Honda’s customer care number at 1-888-234-2138 for more information.
Honda Company has taken this issue seriously and has initiated immediate measures for the safety of customers.
