HBO has officially kicked off production on its long-awaited “Harry Potter” television series, offering fans their first glimpse of the new lead. A photo shared by the network features Dominic McLaughlin in the iconic role of Harry Potter, wearing the familiar Hogwarts robe, round glasses, and lightning-shaped scar—paying homage to the look made famous by Daniel Radcliffe in the original film franchise.
Filming is now underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom, with the series currently set to premiere in 2027.
Alongside the production update, HBO announced a fresh group of cast members. Rory Wilmot will play Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson will take on the role of Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey joins as Madam Hooch, and Anton Lesser will portray wandmaker Garrick Ollivander. These additions follow a previous casting announcement in May, which revealed McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Several major names have also been cast in prominent roles, including Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley.
This new adaptation marks the first time the “Harry Potter” series has been reimagined for television, arriving nearly 14 years after the release of the final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. Since the debut of the original movie in 2001, the franchise has grown into a global cultural phenomenon, inspiring a Broadway production, numerous video games, and popular theme park attractions.
According to HBO, the series aims to be “a faithful adaptation” of J.K. Rowling’s original novels and will introduce “an exciting and talented cast to lead a new generation of fandom.” The show promises to capture the magic, beloved characters, and intricate details that fans have cherished for more than two decades.
