Filming on the new HBO series based on the world- famous book Harry Potter has been announced to begin in the summer of 2025. The series will be shot at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden (Hertfordshire) in the UK. Interestingly, the original eight Harry Potter films were also filmed here.
Warner Bros’ streaming service Max said the series would be a “faithful and faithful adaptation of JK Rowling’s original books”. New actors are being selected for this series. About 32,000 children have signed up for the lead roles in auditions held in September 2024.
A post on the Max platform on Thursday announced, “Get your wands ready! #HarryPotter HBO’s new original series will begin filming at Warner Bros. Studio Leavesden in summer 2025 and will premiere on the Max platform.”
The original eight Harry Potter films were produced by Warner Bros. The films starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Print as the main characters Harry, Hermione and Ron. However, this new series will have a completely new cast.
In the selection process for this series, applicants had to be residents of the UK or Ireland, and be aged between 9 and 11 years by April 2025. After thousands of kids apply, HBO’s casting team goes through the selection process by watching 1,000 videotapes every day.
The series was officially announced in 2023. Max said the series would “connect the next generation to the magical world of Harry Potter, with its iconic characters, wonderful stories, and exciting locations.” It is estimated that each of the Harry Potter books will be made into a season over the seven seasons of the series.
“Each season will be as authentic and interesting as the original books, bringing the wonderful journey of Harry Potter to new audiences around the world,” explained Max.
Series executive producers include Francesca Gardiner and Marc Mylod. The two are among the renowned producers who have worked on the acclaimed series Succession.
The new cast of popular characters such as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley has yet to be announced. However, the audience is still eager for the series.
