The Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, has strongly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s assertions that the United States will take control of the island. Greenland, a vast, resource-rich territory in the Atlantic, is a self-governing part of Denmark, a NATO ally of the U.S.

Trump has expressed interest in annexing Greenland, citing national security reasons. In response, Nielsen stated clearly on Facebook, “President Trump says that the United States ‘will get Greenland.’ Let me be clear: The United States will not get it. We do not belong to anyone else. We decide our own future.”

This statement came shortly after Trump’s interview with NBC News, where he suggested that military force was a potential option for acquiring Greenland, though he also mentioned that a peaceful acquisition without military intervention was possible.

Trump also dismissed concerns about the geopolitical implications of his remarks, saying, “I don’t care,” when asked how this would affect relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has defied international law by invading Ukraine and annexing several of its provinces.

Greenland’s residents and political leaders, along with Danish officials, have reacted with anger to Trump’s repeated suggestions, emphasizing the island’s autonomy and self-determination.
