Fresno State suspends 2 players, removes another amid reports of gambling investigation

Fresno State has suspended two of its leading men’s basketball players and removed a third from the team following reports of an ongoing gambling investigation involving the school.

In a statement released by the university, Jalen Weaver and Zaon Collins have been withheld from competition while the school reviews an eligibility issue. The statement did not provide further details or comments at this time.

ESPN.com later reported that Mykell Robinson, who has not played since January 11, is no longer a member of the team.

The Fresno Bee was the first to report that Fresno State is conducting an internal investigation. School officials have since reached out to the NCAA, which is also looking into the matter.

Fresno State, with a 5-23 record and a 1-16 record in the Mountain West, has already set a new school record for most losses in a single season. The team was attempting to break a nine-game losing streak in a game against Air Force on Saturday but lost 72-69.

Weaver was leading the team with an average of 12.5 points and 4.7 assists per game. Collins was contributing 12 points per game, while Robinson was scoring 10.3 points and pulling down 6.2 rebounds.
