Francisco San Martin, the soap opera actor best known for his role as Dario Hernandez on Days of Our Lives, reportedly passed away on Thursday at the age of 39. According to a coroner’s report from the Los Angeles Medical Examiner, suicide was the cause of death.
A representative for San Martin has not yet commented on the news.
San Martin began his soap opera career in 2010 with Days of Our Lives, where he portrayed cold-case investigator Dario Hernandez for nearly 60 episodes over a six-month period. In 2017, he moved to The Bold and the Beautiful, where he played Mateo, a groundskeeper, in a 16-episode role.
Later in 2017, Francisco San Martin made his primetime television debut with a role on Jane the Virgin, a show known for parodying soap operas and featuring self-referential telenovela storylines. San Martin played Fabian, an actor in a telenovela within the show, starring alongside Gina Rodriguez (Jane). He appeared in Seasons 3 and 4 of the series.
Camila Banus, who starred alongside San Martin on Days of Our Lives, shared a heartfelt tribute to the actor on Instagram.
“Pepe, what can I say other than I love you and rest in peace, my friend. You were the only one who saw Pau sing happy birthday to me at a concert in Hollywood – you couldn’t believe it,” Banus wrote. “Love you so much; I wish I had told you that more.”
