Isak Andic, the founder of the fashion brand Mango, tragically passed away in an accident on Saturday, the company confirmed in a statement.
Andic, who held the position of non-executive Chairman, was remembered by Mango’s CEO, Toni Ruiz, for his significant contributions. The statement highlighted Andic’s strategic vision, inspiring leadership, and steadfast dedication to the values that he instilled in the company, leaving a lasting impact on Mango’s success.
Catalonia’s regional police reported on Saturday afternoon that a 71-year-old man had fallen down a ravine of over 320 feet in the Collbató caves of Salnitre, a well-known tourist destination near Barcelona.
According to a source in Catalonia familiar with the incident, the victim was identified as Isak Andic.
Emergency police teams were dispatched to the site and successfully recovered the body.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his condolences, highlighting Andic’s remarkable work and business vision that transformed Mango into a globally recognized fashion brand. Sanchez extended his admiration via social media, saying, “All my affection, and recognition for your great work and business vision, which has turned this Spanish brand into a world reference in fashion.”
Catalonia’s regional president, Salvador Illa, also paid tribute to Andic, noting that he had left a lasting legacy in both the Catalan and global fashion industries. Illa praised Andic’s contribution to elevating Catalonia and projecting it to the world.
Andic, with an estimated net worth of $4.5 billion, founded the Mango brand in Barcelona in 1984.
Today, Mango is one of Europe’s leading fashion companies, operating stores in over 120 countries. In 2023, the company’s sales exceeded $3.2 billion. It currently runs 40 stores in the United States and plans to open 20 more next year.
