American athlete Grant Fisher broke his second world indoor record in just six days, setting a new 5,000m mark on Friday.

The 27-year-old completed the race in 12 minutes 44.09 seconds at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational, surpassing the previous record of 12:49.60 set by Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele in 2004.

Fisher finished well ahead of France’s Jimmy Gressier, who set a new European indoor record with a time of 12:54.92.

Fisher, who won bronze in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at last year’s Paris Olympics, had already broken the 3,000m indoor record at the Millrose Games in New York the previous Saturday.

This achievement came just a day after Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke both the mile and 1500m indoor records at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in France.
